In recognition of Black History Month Upfront Theatre in association with York Federation of Students, Graduate Student Lounge and CHRY 105.5 FM present Campus Jamboree on Friday, March 1, 2002 at the Underground club, located in the lower level of the student centre at York University. The Jamboree kicks off with the dancehall play, Soundclash. Through drama, singing and dancing, issues such as crimes in the black community, violence against women and the complexities of the dance hall culture are dealt with. After the play there will be a live performance with the reggae band, Anchoring Generation, followed by poetry with Sankofa, Unblind, Karma, Juhzme and Crystal ?Aisha PerrymanMark. After party music by Island Explosion from CHRY 105.5 FM and Gray Star. Show time: 8:00 p.m.
Written and directed by Masani Montague, BA (Hons), MES, Soundclash is part three of the Dread Culture Trilogy of plays based on the novel, Dread Culture, published by Sister Vision Press. The other two plays are Up On Eglinton and Breakout. Dramatizing the various aspects of the dancehall culture Soundclash features Bigga from Zion Train (CHRY 105.5 FM), Nicole Green from Sistah?s Choice Entertainment, Bob I from Black Unity Crew, Lady P, Kwean Zuri, Jah Steve, Chatta and Theresa Suppa.
