I agree with you, not to mention that still to this day, Islam maintains its medieval rule that anyone apostizing must be put to death-a statement made by no other religion on this Earth. Sufism however, I would not really call Islam but rather a current of ideas and esoteric thoughts that were incorporated within the Islamic community by individuals born in that community wishing to look beyond the scope of Islam while maintaining an acceptable approach that would not be considered heretical by Mohammedan fanatics in order to escape death or persecution perhaps.
