The sahara was never a barrier for so called black africa. There are still black populatiosn who live in northern africa like the tuarege,tibbu,and the haratin.
The mistake people often do is thinking that there is a such thing as a true negro,which does not exist. Anthropologist who classify egyptains as being med often go to the extreme and classify somalis as dark whites also.
