"Yeah, but the pre-Semitic Iranians were still mostly Asiatic in origin"
Don't mix up Iran with their neighbouring countries! Second of all, Semitic people never inhabited in the land that we call today Iran, even before the Iranians (meaning the "Aryans" or Indo-Eur.) migration. The pre-Iranians (or an-Iranians/non-Iranians) that lived in Susa (Elamites) and around the Caspian (Kassites) were of Alpine and Asiatic races, but not Semitic (proven linguistically). On the other side of the rivers (today's Iraq), lived some Semitic tribes, but never in the land conquered by the Persians of Iran. Some other sources suggest that these had rather black hair and long skulls with fair skins (ironically close to present day Persians) and they actually called themselves the “black heads” or the “Irs” (meaning Iran).
"They aren't white in the same sense that Europeans are. "
What Europeans are you refering to? Italians, Hungarians, Poles, or Swedes?
"I find it laughable, given the above, that you find Greeks your closest living relatives"
I LIVE IN GREECE AND I AM PERSIAN! Many greeks really (I mean REALLY) look like Iranians/Persians. Mostly Athenians. Sometimes even I am amazed. Anyway, everybody here thinks I'm Greek... And when I say I'm Persian, they all mention Xerxes, Darius (etc.) and then they say that Persians and Greeks are cousins. I find it very cute.
Nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage, as long as you're not putting other cultures down.
