Re: Black Egypt? Hardly!
In Response To: Re: Black Egypt? Hardly! ()

''There is much evidence to suggest that a mixing of Asiatic ("near eastern") and African ("black") peoples occurred 5,000 years ago along the banks of the Nile. The Tasians and Badarians, whose methods of survival were simple farming and gathering, may have thought it practical to integrate their talents for the overall betterment of what would later become a Pharaonic "society". ''

Perhaps,in the Delta, but the Southern portion of Upper Egypt remained rather homogenous as opposed to the hetrogenous nature of the Delta with the combination of the Maadi,Fayium,Merimada and others.

Mixing occured when Southern elments from Nekhen[modern day El-Kab] with Northern elemnts, the Delta. Narmer[Menes] was known to have married princesses in the Delta to legitmize his regin.

Tasins, once thought to be a continuation of Lower Egyptian culture, but know it is connected to Sudanese nomadic groups. Most likley the Badarian shares some simialrities with the Khartoum Mesolithic and the African Aquatic that existed around the once wet Sahara. Pottery desgins between the two are almost idenitical. Early archeologist AJ. Arkell noticed this.

Here is some more on the Tasins:

The existence of still earlier culture, called the Tasins, has been
claimed. This culture would have been chracterized by the pressure of
round based calic form beakers with incised designs filled with white
pigment, which are also known fropm contexts of similar date in
Nelothic Sudan. However, the exisdtanece of the Tasins as a
chronologically or culturally seperated unit has never been
demonstrated beyond beyond doubt. Although most scholars consider the
tasian to be simply part of the badarian culture,it has also been
argued that the tasian represents the continuation of Lower Egyptian
tradition, which would be the immediate predessor of the Naquda 1
culture. This however, seems rather implausible ,first because
similarities with the neolithic cultures are no
convincing, and, secondly, because of the tasins obvious ceramic links
with the sudan. If the Tasians must be considered as a specific
cultural entity, then it might represent a nomadic culture with a
Sudanese background, which interacted with the badarian culture

''Note that this was during predynastic times when different tribes and peoples were not so much united, thus foreign elements were often absorbed into the general Egyptian population without regard to their "racial" origins.''

What foregin influences are you describing? Yes,Egyptians possibly borrowed motif designs from Sumerians and Elamites. Some even say the temple design of early ones at Nekhen is simialr to the modern houses constructed by Marsh Arabs. However, there is evidence for temple designs going back to a archeological site in Upper Egypt called Nabta Playa.

Richard H Wilkinson in his book entitled'' The Complete Temples of Ancient Egypt believes that Nabta Playa might be the evolution of temples in ancient Egypt.
